Seas of Israel

Picture
Dead Sea
Your journey to Israel is not complete without a float in the Dead Sea. It is called the Dead Sea because its salinity prevents the existence of any life forms in the lake. That same salt, on the other hand, provides tremendous relief to the many ailing visitors who come here on a regular basis to benefit from its healing properties. All these and more make the Dead Sea so fascinating, so different and so interesting.

Mediterranean Sea
The Israeli coastal plain is the narrow coastal plain along Israel's Mediterranean Sea coast. The plain extends 116 miles north to south and is divided into a number of areas; the Plain of Zebulun (north of Haifa), Hof HaCarmel (from Haifa to Mount Carmel), the Sharon plain (from Mount Carmel to Tel Aviv), and the Plain of Judea (from Tel Aviv to Zikim). Israel’s western coastline stretches along the Mediterranean Sea, from Rosh ha-Nikra in the north to the Gaza Strip in the south. Warm, soft sand, seashells and snails, waves that lap the shore and wide open spaces - these are the features of Israel’s coastal plain.

Red Sea
The Red Sea lies between arid land, desert and semi-desert. The main reasons for the better development of reef systems along the Red Sea is because of its greater depths and an efficient water circulation pattern, The Red Sea water mass exchanges its water with the Arabian Sea, Indian Ocean via the Gulf of Aden. These physical factors reduce the effect of high salinity caused by evaporation water in the north and relatively hot water in the south. The coast of the Red Sea is bordered by coral formations with more than 1,200 species of fish and more than 250 species of corals. The desert climate of the area provides a long summer with many sunny days needed by the corals to maintain themselves.
